NY Man’s Son Arrested in Alleged Fake Death Scheme

Scandalous Schemes — By on August 7, 2012 at 2:24 PM

If you follow this blog (which you should, because it’s amazing), then you read the story we brought you yesterday about Raymond Roth, who allegedly faked his own drowning. Now it appears that his son has been arrested in the case.

According to officials and the New York Post, 22 year-old Jonathon Roth was arrested for allegedly trying to help his dad pull off that scheme.

Jonathan was charged with insurance fraud, attempted insurance fraud and filing a false police report, due to the call that he placed to police stating that his father vanished back on July 28th.

Nassau County DA officials called Jonathan on August 6th to tell him that he could come in and claim his confiscated cell phone, after which he was quickly questioned and then arrested.

He was held overnight and was set to be arraigned the next day.

As Roth was led out of the DA’s office in handcuffs, his girlfriend, Kristi Mayleas, 22 demanded, “I would like to know what’s going on.”

She believes that Jonathan is “taking the fall” for his father.

Another twist to this tale took place recently, after Raymond’s wife filed for divorce and an order of protection against him.

Lenard Leeds, the attorney for Raymond’s wife, Evana, said, “It now becomes clear that this was just an insurance scheme the son and father were involved in.”

Evana Roth cited cruel and inhumane treatment as the grounds for the divorce from her husband of 12 years.

An anonymous source has stated that the police do not know where Raymond Roth is. As is the case with all arrests, Jonathan Roth is innocent until proven guilty.
