3 Tampa Residents Arrested for Insurance Fraud
Insurance Fraud — By Trace America on November 30, 2011 at 9:35 AMThree employees from a Tampa rehabilitation company called Florida Rehabilitation Practice were arrested on November 22nd for soliciting accident victims and then submitting the fraudulent records of those patients to an insurance company.
According to Department of Financial Services spokeswoman Alexis Lambert and The Tampa Tribune, Alberto Garcia-Borregor, 40, Martha Maria Rodriquez, 42, and Edward Ray Brewster, 34 were arrested by fraud detectives as the result of an undercover investigation.
Lambert stated that, while working at Florida Rehabilitation Practice, Borregor would solicit the fraud agents who were posing as accident victims and then coach them on what to say to their insurance company.
Rodriguez and Brewster, a licensed massage therapist, directed undercover agents to sign blank patient therapy notes and attendance rosters knowing the fraudulent patients would not be treated, Lambert said.
According to Lambert, the fraudulent insurance claims were submitted to Bristol West Insurance Company.
Brewster was charged with 19 counts of making fraudulent insurance applications and is being held in a Hillsborough County jail on $38,000 bond.
Rodriquez was charged with 19 counts of presenting a false statement and is corrently on an immigration hold.
Borregor was charged with making a false and misleading financial statement and patient brokering. According to jail records, he was released on a $4,000 bond.
If convicted, each will face up to five years in prison.
