Several Floridians may soon find out the hard way that they’ve been swindled. If you bought a car insurance policy from Keaira Tiller, you may want to get a new one from someone who has the authority to sell them.

According to ABC News, and Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater’s office, the Valrico woman has spent the past few months selling fake auto insurance policies to bay area car owners and pocketing the money.

“Keaira F. Tiller was arrested on July 14, 2011, by the Dept. of Financial Services Fraud Division … after selling a fraudulent auto insurance card to a detective with this agency,” said CFO Press Secretary Alexis Lambert.

At least seven victims who purchased insurance cards from Tiller were identified by The Division of Insurance Fraud. All of the victims gave sworn statements and also identified Tiller from a line-up of photos.

Lambert stated that Tiller was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on 16 felony charges.

“These people were basically just printing out insurance cards that they sold for $200 to $300 a pop,” said Detective Kevin Morris, of the Division of Insurance Fraud.

Morris stated that this is a very widespread case and that they are looking for more suspects and more victims.

“There are hundreds and hundreds of victims out there who have no idea they don’t have insurance,” said Morris.

According to Morris, Tiller claimed to represent several insurance companies, including Agency Insurance of Maryland, Sentry, Equity and Kingsway Amigo.
