Chiropractor Dodges Jail Time

A Bucks County chiropractor dodged some serious jail time after being convicted of insurance fraud for his participation in a scheme to bilk Independence Blue Cross by submitting phony bills.

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Dr. Raymond W. Brozek of Telford received leniency after he helped in a case against the owners of Hatfield Athletic Club and Rehab One, which is the chiropractic clinic in the athletic club. Mark Levin, 65 and his son-in-law, Michael Karp, 39 were convicted and sentenced to jail time earlier this year for hiring Brozek to submit over $2 million in phony bills for medical treatment.

Prosecutors claim that under the direction of Levin and Karp, Brozek created medical notes and other documents to submit fraudulent bills to IBC for payment.

“The men hired Brozek to work there from 2004 to 2006. Levin demanded that Hatfield workers be seen by Brozek as often as possible so he could bill IBC, prosecutors said.”

Brozek received 450 hours of community service for his participation in the scheme and all three defendants were ordered to pay back the $399,822 they scammed from IBC.
