A 15-year veteran of the LAPD may find himself behind bars after an investigation resulted in his arrest for Workers’ Compensation fraud.

According to the LA County District Attorney’s Office, 37-year-old John Xavier Vach Jr. surrendered himself on October 5th after being charged with a felony complaint of insurance fraud for allegedly operating two businesses while out on disability from a “job stress” related claim.

“Prosecutors allege that the defendant signed a fraudulent document under penalty of perjury and received benefits to which he was not entitled. The complaint alleges that the offenses occurred between February and November 2008.”

The defendant was arraigned on October 6th and was released on a $120,000 bond immediately after his surrender.

Vach, who was last assigned to the Major Crimes Division, currently faces four counts of insurance fraud, one count each of attempted perjury under oath and attempted grand theft. If convicted, he could face a maximum of eight years and 10 months in prison as well as $240,000 fine.
