Seven Indicted in Staged Accident Ring
Rings & Mills — By Trace America on July 16, 2010 at 11:12 AMA Baldwin County grand jury indicted seven individuals this week for violating the State’s Racketeering and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).
According to a press release by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the indictment stemmed from a three-year investigation being conducted by the GBI relating to staged car accidents and insurance fraud. Five of the seven indicted were arrested yesterday and more are expected as the investigation continues.
Among those arrested was Riley Hardling Duncan, Jr., the alleged ring leader of what authorities believe to be a fraud ring defrauding insurance companies by staging car accidents in several counties across Georgia including Jones, Bibb and Baldwin.
Special Agent-in-Charge, Tom Davis, told TheFraudReport that “GBI was able to tie Riley Duncan to over 60 car accidents over the last 10 years. Within the indictment, we were able to tie Riley to thirty-plus crashes that are believed to have been conspired with the other individuals who were also arrested.”
Special Agent Davis indicated that the investigation is still ongoing. Additional arrests are expected to take place and Davis speculated that some local area chiropractors could be involved.
