John Morris, 30, was sentenced today for multiple staged accidents he conducted remotely in numerous areas of Savannah, GA.

According to local news station, WSAV, Morris was sentenced by US District Court Judge William T. Moore, Jr. for his mail fraud conviction.

“Evidence presented at sentencing revealed that from 2007 to 2009, MORRIS staged vehicle accidents, a car break in, car thefts, and a carjacking for the purpose of collecting payouts from insurance companies. During this time period, MORRIS submitted at least 13 claims in an attempt to collect in excess of $130,000.  In a number of cases, MORRIS would purchase vehicles; stage phony accidents in remote areas of Savannah; and then submit a claim for reimbursement, often on policies which were purchased just days before.”

Morris received 51 months behind bars for his crimes and is also facing three years of supervised release and more than $87,000 in restitution.  With one more fraudster behind bars, Savannah has one less threat of rising insurance premiums.
