Captured Fugitive Commits Suicide

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the death of former fugitive, David McGinnis was a suicide.

According to The Pittsburgh Channel, McGinnis asked for a razor to clean up before going to court this morning when his cell mate found that he had cut his throat.

“McGinnis was given a razor to shave with on Tuesday morning to clean up for court, prison officials said. As McGinnis was shaving, his cell mate was lying on the top bunk, and heard the water running as he shaved, Miele reported.”

“After a few minutes of hearing nothing, the cell mate looked down and saw McGinnis bleeding on the floor. McGinnis was rushed to Westmoreland Hospital where he died shortly before 9 a.m. from a self-inflicted cut to the neck.”

McGinnis was arrested in May after a two-month manhunt stemming from an original case of insurance fraud.  During the man hunt, McGinnis was described as armed, dangerous and looking for revenge.

Though the death of McGinnis is still being investigated, the warden of Westmoreland County Prison stated that McGinnis showed no signs of suicidal tendencies and was “quite boisterous” when it came to discussing his experience on the run.
